Column: Beechwood shines light on bright future

For more than a decade, the exquisite property of McKee Graham Boykin family lineage known as Beechwood, prominently and extensively bordering Knights Hill Road, has been the center of a constellation of connected but frequently conflicting interests. These conflicts surfaced in 2006 when Beechwood’s more recent owners launched a plan to have the property annexed into the city as a high-density PDD residential subdivision development -- an event that set the stage for a quintessential conflict between “progress and preservation.” Thus, was created “Preserve Camden With Responsible Growth,” a group of concerned citizens who believed that progress and preservation are not mutually exclusive, but are essential partners.
