This year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the completion of the first phase of the Wateree Dam and the first power generated by the Wateree Hydro Station. On October 7, 1919, the Wateree Hydro Station, operated by Southern Power, began commercial operations. The 56,000-kilowatt plant was a clean, renewable source of power for South Carolina’s electrification.
