When we hear the word, “Russia,” it might serve us to get clear on what we’re talking about. Many people, even national leaders, when they use the term, seem to be referencing not today’s Russia, but the Soviet Union, disbanded in 1989. The Soviet Union, as an empire, embraced 8.6 million square miles, the largest land mass on the planet and the second-largest economy in the world after us.
