The South Carolina Heritage Act means anyone who wants to change which parts of our history we honor has to use addition rather than subtraction: Cities, counties and colleges can’t tear down monuments, but they can build new ones. They can’t rename buildings, but they can name new ones as they please. And they can explain anything they want.
