Gilland: The Christmas plant

No plant says Christmas like the beautiful Poinsettia and while technically not a tree, it can attain heights of up to 20 feet in its native Mexico and Guatemala. There it is known as “La Flor de la Nochebuena” (Flower of the Holy Night). Here in the United States, Poinsettias received their name in honor of Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett, who introduced the plant into the country in 1828.
