If you wanted to photograph a Camden building or scene before the Civil War, what would you photograph? We only know of three photographers chose to photograph: the Kershaw/Cornwallis House about 1858, the construction of the second town clock and King Haiglar tower about 1859 and the cadets in full uniform in front of Peck’s Academy in early 1861. This article will concentrate on the photograph of the Kershaw/Cornwallis House, which is now called the Kershaw House.
