There have been times when the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize seems political at best, pandering at worst. Nobel prizes, in various categories, including peace, are supposed to be awarded to the person or persons the Nobel committee believes have “done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” That explanation has usually been sufficient in most categories.
