Blue House became a part of the legend and lore of Camden not because of who lived there, but because of who died there. It was the place where Baron Johann DeKalb took his last breath before succumbing to the 11 wounds he received at the Battle of Camden on August 16, 1781. Taken as a prisoner of war at the battle, he was brought there by his British captors who held his demeanor in battle in esteem.
