On the evening of August 15, 1780, Catherine Orr Alexander looked up at the night sky in Mecklenburg County and wondered exactly where her husband was. She knew he was in harm’s way for he was serving with the Continental troops under Gen. Horatio Gates. Little did she know he was not very far away from Charlotte Town, just down the road toward Camden at Rugeley’s Mill, encamped with the American troops who were preparing for an encounter with the British at the garrison at Camden.
