Introduction Although no phosphate mines were located in Kershaw County, local planters and sharecroppers extensively used fertilizer produced by them for many years. These mines and local companies who sold their fertilizer advertised in the Camden papers. In 1874 J. T. Mickle of Camden was the local agent for the Stono Phosphate Company.
