The saga of Baron DeKalb's helmet
Teal April Web
On August 16, 1780 Baron De Kalb received multiple mortal wounds at the Battle of Camden and three days later he succumbed from those wounds. At the time he was placed in a grave at the lower end of Camden on Meeting Street near Broad across from present day Historic Camden. In Historic Camden, Colonial and Revolutionary, Kirkland and Kennedy show this location on their “Diagram Four” which was a map of Camden in 1798.
