It was early in my relationship with my mother-in-law, Rose Mary, when I concluded the two of us were destined to be more like mother and daughter, or two loving friends who just happened to be smitten with the same guy. I remember telling her the title of “mother-in-law” didn’t seem to genuinely describe the admiration I had for her. So from that moment on, I would introduce her, not as my “mother-in-law,” but as my husband’s mother, Rose Mary or as “Tete”, the name used by her 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
