County jobless rate still above state’s average South Carolina’s unemployment rate has remained unchanged at 5.4 percent in October, while Kershaw County’s rate remains considerably higher than the state average at 6.4 percent. “In the past year, almost 30,000 new jobs have been created in trade and services while manufacturing, including textiles, has experienced a net loss of about 2,000 jobs in South Carolina,” Jack David, executive director of employment security commission said. David said he expects the unemployment rate to remain about the same for the rest of the year.
