Colonial Cup

We are saddened to hear the Colonial Cup, one of five Class 1 steeplechase horse races in the country, will no longer run as a separate racing event in the fall. The venerable race, established by the late Marion duPont Scott, ran every November from 1970 until 2016 and while the race always attracted a much smaller crowd than the Carolina Cup, it nonetheless remains a giant in importance and prestige in the steeplechasing world. Indeed, Ms. duPont Scott established the race because she wanted to bring an international element to Camden and to the Sport of Kings and thanks to her vision, race fans in Camden have had the pleasure and privilege of seeing many an international champion grace the Springdale Race Course over the years.
