DSS lawsuit
Placeholder Image
On the front page, readers will find a story by senior writer Martin L. Cahn about a local couple who was recently awarded $225,000 in a lawsuit against the S.C. Department of Social Services. Without getting into specifics, the lawsuit involved allegations that a DSS social worker confined and kept an elderly man in a nursing facility against his and his wife’s wishes -- apparently without following the proper procedures to exercise that authority. For people who are concerned about government overreach, this case would appear to be a prime example of the very things they fear could happen when government has too much power.
