It took nearly a decade, but the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) finally reissued Duke Energy’s license to operate the Catawba-Wateree Hydroelectric Project, which include the Wateree River, Lake Wateree and its dam. The reissued license is good for the next 40 years, meaning Duke will manage the dams, lakes, rivers and shorelines up and down the chain through 2055. Why did the process take this long?
