Editorial: Health board is still public body

Our recent report on how the Health Services District of Kershaw Count Board of Trustees netted $2.3 million from the $35 million lease/sale of KershawHealth to Capella Healthcare came about only because of a S.C. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. We made the request after nearly two weeks of electronic and voice communication failed to reveal the bottom line. We shouldn’t have had to make the request, in our opinion, because as soon as the deal closed, it made the entire transaction public information.
