Kershaw County Council took time during its meeting Tuesday to honor outgoing Sheriff Jim Matthews for his dedicated service to Kershaw County.

We would like to join the county in thanking Matthews for a job well done and congratulating him on a distinguished and highly accomplished career in law enforcement.

Whether one agreed or disagreed with his decisions, methods and actions, it cannot be denied that Matthews has established a significant legacy of professionalism and competence for the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, improving upon past accomplishments of predecessors, setting the bar ever higher, and, perhaps most important, providing for an especially smooth transition for our new sheriff.

So, we would like to once again thank Jim Matthews for his service to our county and wish him well in any and all future endeavors.

Whatever he chooses to do, we can all be sure that he will do it full throttle and very well.
