Editorial: New year, new KCSO

Readers today will see a story by Senior Writer Martin L. Cahn about incoming Sheriff Lee Boan and his command staff.
Boan takes over, technically, on Jan. 2, 2019, but has been working behind the scenes with outgoing Sheriff Jim Matthews to make as smooth a transition as possible. Boan especially touts the cooperation of the present administration, noting that -- and expressly thanking -- Matthews for doing all he can to make the transition as seamless as possible. Apparently, this is not the case in other parts of the state.

With the new sheriff comes a new command staff, including a very experienced and much respected fellow officer from the Camden Police Department, as well as two very experienced and highly respected officers from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. Together, the four bring more than 80 years experience to the helm and, again, we are all very fortunate to have them working for our community.

We hope everyone will join us in congratulating and thanking these dedicated officers and we wish them, the KCSO, and all of our first responders a safe and successful New Year.
