When news of University of South Carolina (USC) head football coach Steve Spurrier’s resignation from the post hit social media Monday night, rumors swirled as to who would replace the Hall of Fame coach either in the short or long term. After the names of several Gamecock staff members were bandied about by members of the media, USC confirmed Tuesday morning Camden native and former Camden High School (CHS) Bulldog standout Shawn Elliott was the team captains’ choice to temporarily fill Spurrier’s shoes. By noon Tuesday, the university officially named Elliott as interim head football coach at a press conference held inside The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium.
