Master potter John Bartlam made Americas first porcelain

In 1972, Dr. George Terry travelled to Cainhoy, on the Wando River near Charleston, on a hunch. For years he had been researching a potter named John Bartlam who came to America from Staffordshire, England, in 1763, seeking a profitable trade in American made ceramics. Terry knew Bartlam located a kiln and pottery works somewhere near Cainhoy and he wanted to find it.
