• We note with regret the recent death of torch singer Etta James, whose rendition of "At Last" has never been equaled. The versatile singer had a dreamy voice, and the song, first made famous during the Big Band era by Glenn Miller, was perfect for her. James carved out an enviable career and will be long remembered. • The U.S. and world economies continue to struggle, but you'd never know it by some of the outsized compensation packages being enjoyed by CEOs in this country, with a record number of executives taking home more than $50 million.
