• We’re not going to presume to know exactly what Kershaw County Council is going to do, but we will say members appeared the most receptive they have in years to increasing local funding to the Kershaw County School District (KCSD). At its May 5 budget hearing, council invited KCSD officials to discuss its budget and make a pitch to return to a no-longer state-mandated local funding formula. KCSD Chief Financial Officer Donnie Wilson made the case for a 4.5 mil tax increase to help keep the district essentially where it is today in terms of operations when taking student population growth and inflation into account.
