Martin Luther King Jr. was an American icon whose legacy many of us choose to honor by volunteering in our communities. King was a man who taught the world that passivity does not make a better community -- active, concerned citizens are the ones to enact change. As state president of the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), I know, as King said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
