Four score plus five years ago, the vista which is now Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site was quite different. The secrets of 18th century Camden located south of Bull Street were blanketed by cotton fields and the city dump adorned the ridge of Magazine Hill. Fortunately, local visionaries Richard Lloyd (and wife, Margaret), James Anderson, Henry Boykin, Roderick Cantey, Mary “Teene” DuVal, Joe Jenkins, Lanning Risher, Henry Savage, Austin Sheheen and Bill Wilson decided the abandoned area needed to be preserved, restored, researched and, ideally, interpreted in a museum setting.
