Reader muses on women and the GOP
Placeholder Image
Initially, both the Republican and Democratic parties supported the women’s movement of the 1970s. In 1975, Congress mandated and funded conferences in every state, leading up to a 1977 national conference in Houston to develop a plan of action to guide Congress on women’s issues. The well-funded women who fought against the feminists of the time and their descendants continue to demand the GOP hold fast to the commitment it made back then to be the party of “family values” not women’s rights.
