Readers: And so it begins at KershawHealth

About a year ago, we were desperately seeking information about how the proposed Kershaw Health merger with Capella and MUSC was progressing and what would be the impacts on the community and on health care within the hospital’s service area. The first that the public actually knew about this pending transaction was from a Chronicle-Independent article published in October 2014. As part of our inquiries, we met and talked with the chairman of the hospital’s board of trustees, the CEO, the Chief Nursing Officer and one of the attorneys who was advising the hospital during the negotiations with Capella and MUSC. In each of these meetings, all, without exception, assured us that continuing to provide the highest quality of patient care would be paramount in any negotiations and a primary concern in any decision making process.
