Republican obstructionism

An open letter to South Carolina U.S. 5th District Rep. Mick Mulvaney Having recently read Candace Millard’s book, The Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President, published in 2011, I recognize this powerful book’s current relevance as it chronicles events and the extreme Republican obstructionism that President James Garfield faced in 1880. It seems to me, upon reflection, that Republicans have changed little since Garfield’s time except, perhaps, to become even more susceptible to the influence of money and less willing to compromise for the common good. But you and other readers can be the judge of that, as I share with you some excerpts from Millard’s book (page 38 and pages 92-93).
