The Kershaw County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors made a decision Monday night that has been years in the making -- to begin the search for an appropriate location in the West Wateree area to house an ambulance station and to move forward with putting such a station in operation. The hospital administration was authorized by the board to begin looking for a site for the ambulance station and pulling together the elements to put an Emergency Medical Service unit in action in the Lugoff-Elgin area on a two-year probationary basis. According to data presented by Bill Moser, Kershaw County EMS made a total of 2,664 calls county-wide during the nine month period through September, with an average of about 7.3 calls per day.
