Local forester recognized More than 25 years ago, Francis Snelgrove began purchasing cutover timber lands and working to improve them. Now with 460 acres in Kershaw County, Snelgrove is among 26 landowners in the state who have received Stewardship Forrest Certification. A former superintendent of schools in Kershaw County, Snelgrove was also S.C. Tree Farmer of the Year in 1993 and was runner-up for the Southeastern Regional Tree Farmer of the Year.
