To coincide with the 20th anniversary of Earth Day, the Chronicle - Independent this week began a recycling program at the Camden office. The newspaper, which recycles newsprint for Kershaw County Activity Center, will also recycle white paper, computer paper and aluminum cans. ***** The Linde plant in Lugoff, through its “Rooting for America” community tree planting program, recently donated trees for planting along the nature trail and outdoor classrooms at Lugoff Elementary School. The Lugoff Garden Club assisted in the planting and will be involved in a long-term project with the trail, planting trees, flowers, and plants and erecting birdhouses and birdfeeders to serve as educational opportunities for the students. ***** The prestigious title of Honorman was awarded to Seaman recruit Charlton “Charley” Chandler at his recruit graduation ceremony, held in March in Great Lakes, Ill.
