After seven years in which the old Boylan Haven Mather Academy has continued to sit unused, a public hearing has been scheduled for March 6 to once again float the possibility of rezoning the property for commercial use. The property, which has mostly sat vacant since it was closed in 1983, served black children for a number of years before declining enrollment forced the school to close to close its doors. The school is owned by the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, which has been trying to unload the property for seven years.
