Mid Carolina Credit Union (MCCU) recently announced the recipients of its 19th annual scholarship program. Four students are receiving a total of $2,000 toward their college expenses. The applicants were reviewed by internal and external judges, who evaluated each student’s GPA and course load, volunteer activity, Banzai assessment, recommendation letter and written essay.
According to a MCCU press release, each of the following students will receive a $500 scholarship:
• Emma Grace Atkinson — Plans to attend Charleston Southern University in the Fall, majoring in Family
• Cooper Hicks — Plans to attend Anderson University in the Fall, majoring in Marketing.
• Cameron Sulton — Plans to attend the University of South Carolina Gateway Program at Midlands Tech in the Fall, majoring in Cyber Security.
• Seth Turner — Plans to attend Lander University in the Fall, majoring in Graphic Design.
“We are committed to investing in the communities we serve, and our annual scholarship program represents one of the most gratifying ways we do so,” MCCU CEO David Mooney said. “It is our sincere wish to help these bright, hardworking students achieve their academic and career goals so they can also become prominent civic leaders in the future.”
MCCU’s scholarship program is open to eligible students seeking their first undergraduate degree. Awards may be used to fund tuition, books, housing, and other expenses. The credit union has been supporting the Kershaw County and Richland County communities for more than 60 years and has awarded more than $57,000 in scholarships.
To enhance our regular scholarship criteria, MCCU incorporated a new component into the student application process this year. Thanks to our partnership with Banzai, an accredited web-based financial literacy program, we were able to offer a valuable financial education aspect. Students use the interactive program to learn how to manage a bank account and master real-life scenarios, allowing them to develop essential financial skills that will equip them for the challenges of the real world.
